Twenty multi-year deployments running from 2018 to 2026, selected not for their release date but for the depth of their sourcing: the cases the numbered issues keep returning to for comparison.
Tennis Australia x Infosys
The slam that never stops. AI plays tennis year-round.
Tennis Australia and Infosys have built one of the most layered AI deployments in professional sport over eight consecutive Australian Open editions. The 2025 edition introduced "Beyond Tennis," the world's first generative AI-powered tennis league, featuring 16 AI-crafted virtual players across eight fan-managed teams — designed to keep fan engagement alive year-round, not just during the Grand Slam fortnight.
IOC × Intel
The first Olympics with a formal AI agenda.
As the Official Worldwide AI Platform Partner of Paris 2024, Intel deployed AI across three distinct areas. First: an on-site fan activation where computer vision (Intel Gaudi accelerators + OpenVINO) analysed athletic drills and matched each participant to an Olympic sport — over 10,500 attendees participated.
Premier League x Microsoft
30 seasons of football, one AI companion for 1.8 billion fans.
The Premier League and Microsoft announced a five-year strategic partnership in July 2025, covering fan engagement, cloud infrastructure, and internal operations. The centrepiece is the Premier League Companion powered by Copilot — an AI assistant embedded in the official app and website, built on Azure AI Foundry and Azure OpenAI Service.
NFL x Microsoft
AI moves from the back office to the sideline, live.
In August 2025, the NFL and Microsoft announced a multiyear extension of their decade-long partnership, deploying AI across sideline operations, scouting, and stadium management. The most concrete deployment: the NFL's Sideline Viewing System was upgraded across all 32 clubs with more than 2,500 Microsoft Surface Copilot+ PCs, giving roughly 1,800 players and 1,000+ coaches real-time game data and AI-powered filtering.
Formula 1 x AWS (F1 Insights)
Eight years of F1 data, still sport's most mature AI laboratory.
Formula 1 and AWS launched F1 Insights in 2018, growing to over 20 ML-driven broadcast metrics (built on Amazon SageMaker) that process 1.1 million telemetry data points per second per car. In 2022, AWS's HPC infrastructure enabled two-car CFD aerodynamic simulations that contributed to the 2022 car redesign.
Liverpool FC x Google DeepMind (TacticAI)
The AI that advises on corners now plays open ball too — and it's no longer Liverpool's alone.
A multi-year research collaboration between Liverpool FC and Google DeepMind, running since 2020, culminated in a peer-reviewed Nature Communications paper published in March 2024: TacticAI uses geometric deep learning trained on 7,176 Premier League corner kicks to suggest alternative player setups. In blind comparisons, Liverpool's own football experts preferred TacticAI's suggestions over the real match configurations 90% of the time.
DFL × AWS
Bundesliga becomes the first football league with a GenAI broadcast layer.
On March 20, 2024, the DFL and AWS announced an expanded multi-year collaboration at SportsInnovation in Düsseldorf, with AWS named Official Generative AI Provider of the DFL — a new designation beyond its existing Official Technology Provider role. The expansion focuses on three areas: (1) Real-time GenAI commentary — in collaboration with Sportec Solutions, the system uses LLMs to generate dynamic, personalised, multi-language written match commentary tailored to individual viewers during live broadcasts; (2) Automated global media production — cloud-based automated graphic insertion and English-language overlays now cover all 306 Bundesliga 2 matches, more than doubling international broadcast count and nearly quadrupling reach; (3) DFL Media Hub archive optimisation — AI-generated metadata allows search across 210,000+ hours of footage.
SSC Napoli x Zone7
An injury prediction platform, a league title, a renewal through 2026.
NBA × WSC Sports
25,000 hours of NBA footage, unlocked for creators by AI.
Sevilla FC x IBM watsonx (Scout Advisor)
Three hundred thousand scouting reports, one question in plain language, a summary in two minutes.
X Games x Google Cloud
The first AI judge in action sports history.
UEFA x Sportradar (UFDS)
A model trained on twenty years of betting data, fifty analysts checking every signal.
MLB x Sportradar
MLB takes an equity stake in its own data infrastructure.
ATP × Sportradar × Arwen AI
AI becomes the first line of defence for athletes online.
River Plate x Veridas (FaceID)
Eighty-five thousand fans enter the stadium by looking at a camera.
US Open x IBM watsonx (AI Commentary)
Sport's first generative commentator keeps learning, tournament after tournament.
NBA × Cosm
The best seat in the house is inside an 87-foot dome.
NBA x AWS
Basketball gets its first AI-powered intelligence hub.
ScorePlay
€13M to put AI clip generation in every team's hands.
USA Taekwondo x Fastbreak AI
The AI scheduling layer reaches Olympic federations.
