NBA × WSC Sports

25,000 hours of NBA footage, unlocked for creators by AI.

In October 2024, ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season tip-off, the NBA announced the expansion of its partnership with WSC Sports through the NBA Playmakers creator network — the league's largest creator initiative to date. The centrepiece: a new content-sharing network giving select social media creators direct access to 25,000+ hours of NBA game footage alongside AI-driven editing tools, enabling automatic highlight generation by player, team, and play type. Creators including Thinking Basketball, Swish Cultures, and Golden Hoops joined the programme. For WSC Sports, 2024 marked a milestone year: the company produced over 10 million AI-generated videos across 530+ clients in 50+ countries — one video every 3.1 seconds. New products launched that year include a multilingual AI voiceover tool (automatic script and narration generation) and an article-to-video solution. New clients added in 2024 included Ligue de Football Professionnel, Borussia Dortmund, NWSL, and Movistar Plus+. The company also rebranded to align its visual identity with its expanded product scope. Status: production from 2024-25 season; WSC platform serving 530+ clients globally.
Why it matters

The NBA-WSC Sports creator network is a deliberate rights strategy, not just a content play. By giving creators access to 25,000 hours of footage via AI tools, the NBA is expanding its content surface without expanding its production costs — and converting previously unauthorised fan edits into a sanctioned, brand-safe ecosystem. The risk is narrative control: when hundreds of creators produce NBA content using the same AI tooling, the range of perspectives narrows even as volume increases. The 10-million-video milestone also reveals something about the broadcast market: AI-generated clips have already become the dominant production format for sports content online, at a scale that human editorial teams could never reach. The follow-on question for rights holders is how to price and protect content in an environment where creation is essentially costless.
