SeatGeek in ChatGPT

Tickets sold inside a conversation.

SeatGeek became the first ticketing platform to integrate directly into OpenAI's ecosystem via ChatGPT, enabling users to discover, compare, and purchase event tickets — including resale — within a single conversational flow inside the AI interface. The integration means a fan asking ChatGPT "what's on this weekend in New York?" can receive ticket recommendations and complete a purchase without leaving the conversation. The technical implementation uses OpenAI's plugin and action architecture, with SeatGeek's inventory and pricing API surfaced via the ChatGPT interface. The commercial logic is demand interception: capturing purchase intent at the moment it is formed, before the user opens a browser or searches a dedicated ticketing platform. Status: production integration, live in ChatGPT. Announced April 2025.
Why it matters

The fan journey has officially left the league's and venue's owned platforms. When ticket discovery and purchase happen inside a third-party AI interface, the rights holder loses visibility into the top of the funnel — who considered attending, what alternatives they evaluated, why they chose or rejected a given event. SeatGeek gains distribution reach; the cost is structural dependency on OpenAI's ecosystem terms, pricing policies, and the continued relevance of ChatGPT as a discovery surface. The broader implication for the ticketing industry is acute: if conversational AI becomes the primary discovery layer for live events, every incumbent platform that has not secured similar integrations is algorithmically invisible to a growing share of potential buyers.
