Mercury13, a multi-club women's football ownership group, partnered with Catapult — the leading sports performance analytics provider — to build a multi-club wearable data programme explicitly calibrated for women's football physiology. Athletes wear Catapult GPS and accelerometer devices during training and matches; the data is aggregated across Mercury13's clubs to build datasets and predictive models specific to female physiology and match context. The explicit goal: to stop adapting models built on male-sport data to women athletes, and instead build from female-specific ground truth. The programme covers performance optimisation, load management, and long-term athlete health and wellbeing, with outputs designed for coaching staff, medical teams, and club management. Mercury13's multi-club structure is the enabling factor: it creates the data volume required to train meaningful physiological models that a single club could not generate alone. Why it matters

Most sports analytics infrastructure — GPS thresholds, load management protocols, injury prediction models — was built on data from male professional athletes and subsequently adapted for women's sport. This is not a minor calibration issue: female physiology, hormonal cycles, injury patterns, and recovery timelines differ materially from the male defaults these models encode. Mercury13 and Catapult are addressing a structural gap with direct consequences for athlete health, not just competitive performance. The multi-club ownership model is the mechanism that makes this possible: data aggregation across clubs creates the sample sizes needed for meaningful modelling. The open question is data governance — who owns the physiological data generated by athletes across multiple clubs, and how is consent structured across different national regulatory environments?
