HUMAIN x ai.io (HUMAIN Sport)

Saudi sovereign AI enters the talent identification market.

HUMAIN — a PIF company delivering full-stack AI capabilities — acquired a controlling stake in ai.io, a London-based platform whose core product is aiScout: a mobile app using computer vision to analyse 22 body segments from smartphone video, producing biometric assessments of young athletes against age and gender benchmarks. The system already serves 45,000 athletes in the MLSNext (MLS youth program). The launch of HUMAIN Sport combines Saudi AI infrastructure with ai.io's talent detection engine, with deployment planned across Saudi Arabia and international markets.
Why it matters

HUMAIN applies the same geopolitical playbook to talent identification that Saudi Arabia has already deployed in football rights: acquire infrastructure, not just content. aiScout reduces the cost of scouting to zero for anyone with a smartphone — a young athlete in Nigeria or Bangladesh can be assessed against the same biometric benchmarks as a peer in London. Two open questions: have the biometric models been validated on athletic populations beyond the Western datasets on which they were predominantly trained? And who owns the physical data generated from tens of thousands of minors in markets with very different consent frameworks?
