Athletico Paranaense × Gemini

Conversational AI for squad planning.

Athletico Paranaense became the first Latin American club to sign a Gemini Sports deal with Google, deploying conversational AI across its scouting and squad planning workflow. The implementation integrates scouting reports, market valuation data, event data, and player tracking data from providers including Wyscout and StatsBomb into a single conversational interface powered by Google Gemini. Scouts and sporting directors can query the system in natural language — "show me left-footed centre-backs under 23 with high pressing intensity in Liga MX" — and receive aggregated, contextualised outputs that would previously require hours of manual cross-referencing across multiple platforms. The system accelerates shortlist generation, comparative player valuations, and transfer decision preparation. The mobile-first design reflects the reality of how scouting workflows operate — often during travel or at live matches. Status: production deployment, announced April 2025. First Gemini Sports deal in Latin America.
Why it matters

The convergence of scouting reports, market data, and tracking data into a conversational layer is the correct direction for recruitment technology — the problem has never been data availability but data synthesis. Athletico Paranaense's deployment makes explicit what many clubs are building quietly: a single interface that removes the cognitive load of switching between five different platforms during a transfer window. The risks are three: data bias (the underlying datasets disproportionately cover European leagues, potentially undervaluing South American players in their home context); role-archetype overfitting (LLMs tend to surface players who match historical profiles rather than unconventional fits); and human scout displacement if the system's outputs are treated as conclusions rather than inputs. The model should inform judgment, not replace it.
