IBM x USTA (Serve Quality)
Serve mechanics, measured 50 times a second.
IBM and the USTA launched Serve Quality for the 2026 US Open: a limb-tracking system built with IBM Bob that follows 21 body and racquet points at 50 captures per second, across all 254 singles matches. The result is a near real-time serve mechanics score, accuracy, consistency, energy transfer, that IBM describes as the first feature of its kind on the market.
Por qué importa
Wimbledon x IBM (Issue #5) explained which points decided a match. US Open x IBM (Issue #0) answered fan questions in plain language. Serve Quality is a different category: it doesn't narrate the match, it measures the athlete's body. It is the first case in this archive where the IBM/USTA infrastructure that has narrated sport starts quantifying its biomechanics. No public source clarifies whether this data also reaches player coaches or stays confined to the fan experience.
