Bundesliga becomes the first football league with a GenAI broadcast layer.

On March 20, 2024, the DFL and AWS announced an expanded multi-year collaboration at SportsInnovation in Düsseldorf, with AWS named Official Generative AI Provider of the DFL — a new designation beyond its existing Official Technology Provider role. The expansion focuses on three areas: (1) Real-time GenAI commentary — in collaboration with Sportec Solutions, the system uses LLMs to generate dynamic, personalised, multi-language written match commentary tailored to individual viewers during live broadcasts; (2) Automated global media production — cloud-based automated graphic insertion and English-language overlays now cover all 306 Bundesliga 2 matches, more than doubling international broadcast count and nearly quadrupling reach; (3) DFL Media Hub archive optimisation — AI-generated metadata allows search across 210,000+ hours of footage. The app personalisation layer, using Amazon Personalize, had already increased average session length by 17%. The Bundesliga Match Facts portfolio — 15 real-time AI metrics processing 3.6 million data points per match — continues as the flagship product. Status: production since 2020, genAI layer expanding from 2024 season.
